Nylons Under Those Dresses, Ladies....Please!!!

What are nylons, you may ask? Well, they are those stretchy stockings that can extend up the calf to the knee or all the way to the hip. They are typically worn by women under dresses (or at least they used to be) in order to improve the appearance of a woman's legs & smooth out imperfections, giving the legs a more polished look.

Now, they are used to shine brass items & decor, disguise a criminal's facial appearance when pulled over the head, or they can serve as a temporary arm tattoo when one draws pictures on them & slips them over the arm like a sleeve. Some even use them over their camera lens to give a hazy, eerie appearance to photos. The possibilities are endless for the many ways that nylon hosiery can be used.

I have an idea, albeit an outdated one given the state of fashion these days,......but why not wear nylons under, say, DRESSES & SKIRTS!!! I know, it's a bit radical, but worth consideration.

I know that many women rejoice over the current fashion trend of not wearing panty hose (nylons) with their dresses & skirts. I understand that because panty hose are restrictive, often uncomfortable, & they can make you hot. But I still long for the days when women wore hosiery under their dresses. I will not wear a dress for the very simple fact that I don't want to be the only one wearing nylons under it. 

Frankly, not every woman has perfectly sculpted legs, with that very nice skin tone. If I wanted people to see my chocolate chip ice cream colored legs with bony knees that have been registered in 5 states as a lethal weapon & have been compared to chicken legs once upon a time, I'd be wearing shorts & dresses everywhere.

I'm all for wearing whatever floats your boat, especially if you are comfortable in your own skin (we women have always had a hard time being comfortable in our own skin), but the fact is though, some women look better with hosiery than without, because just as not every woman can sport a tank top & look good, not every woman can go bare-legged under dresses & have it look good either. 

I mean no offense to ladies whose legs don't look so good without nylons, especially because I am one of those women who would definitely look better in them. I just long for the "old days" when women wore nylons. Nylons smooth out skin tones & minimize those imperfections that tend to draw attention to problem areas instead of flattering them, not to mention that if one is wearing the kind that go up to the hip, they can hold the tummy in so that one doesn't have to! They do still sell nylon hosiery in stores ladies. Women just aren't buying them apparently.

Oh & I don't know about other states, but here in Southern California, just try finding a dress that isn't sleeveless & see what turns up! Not every woman feels comfortable with their entire arm showing in a dress, especially if she is like me & is sporting one of those "farmer's tans" that resemble the brown & white stripes of neopolitan ice cream, due to wearing short-sleeve t-shirts & having the shoulder covered while the rest of the arm bakes in the sun.

So ladies, who's with me? By all means, if you can rock the dress with no nylons, knock yourself out - you can get away with it.

But for those of us who can't, let's keep the nylon business up & running, because if we stop buying & wearing them, manufacturers will stop making them. And then what will we do when our legs eventually resemble a raisin in the sun?!
